Stronger Together: Digital Solutions for a Sustainable and Competitive Food Industry

AgriExcel is a European collaboration project under the Interreg Europe program with a clear goal: to drive digital transformation in the food sector—and, in doing so, to strengthen Styria as a hub for innovation. The focus is on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are set to become more future-proof, transparent, and resilient through smart technologies, practical digital tools, and cross-sector collaboration.

Digitalization has long been more than just a technological trend—it is a crucial driver of competitiveness, sustainability, and growth. It opens up new opportunities, particularly in the food sector, which faces complex challenges such as traceability, climate change, and shifting consumer needs. AgriExcel is actively embracing this transformation—with a clear roadmap and innovative solutions.

What AgriExcel Does:

AgriExcel promotes the active transfer of knowledge regarding digital best practices between regions and businesses across Europe. The goal is not only to adapt existing technologies but also to build on them intelligently and provide SMEs with concrete tools—from smart production and transparent supply chains to efficient marketing.

The key project objectives:

• Improving digital competencies in the food industry
• Promoting sustainable and regional production models
• Increasing traceability and transparency throughout the entire value chain
• Supporting the internationalization of local products
• Creating spaces for innovation to foster new collaborations and ideas

Digital Responsibility Meets Styrian Strength

The SFG (Styrian Economic Development Agency) and the Styrian Food Hub are pooling their networks, expertise, and innovative strength to make digitalization effective where it is needed most: directly with producers, processors, and marketers. Together with partner regions, solutions are developed during exchange and networking meetings that are practical, economically viable, and environmentally sound.

Connected across Europe—effective regionally

In addition to Styria, regions from Finland, Latvia, Spain, Bulgaria, Italy, and North Macedonia are participating in AgriExcel. The focus is on sharing successful digitalization strategies in the food sector. This generates new momentum—from the farm to the digital sales channel.

The project is funded by the European Union through the Interreg Europe program with a total of 1.59 million euros.
