Venture Capital Equals Smart Capital

Companies like Uber and Airbnb demonstrate what innovation is all about today: New technologies have the potential to transform entire industries and displace traditional business models from the market. And innovation means far more than simply replacing traditional products and services. Driven by new technologies, a transformation is taking place across the entire business world: physical products and processes are changing, business cases are being revolutionized, and corporate structures are being turned upside down. This requires capital—and not just any capital—but venture capital or smart capital.

We’re team players!

Are you a young entrepreneur looking for strong support? Then get in touch with us. We invest up to 500,000 euros of our own capital in innovative Styrian startups. We make our investment hand-in-hand with a private co-investor (business angel, venture capital firm) and can even double the amount of private investment contributed. Together with the private investor, we help finance the growth of your company. This covers expenses for R&D, sales, capital expenditures, and working capital. As a co-investor, we remain on board for up to ten years before you buy back the shares or new investors come on board. Until then, we work together as a team—including access to SFG’s expertise and network.

What exactly characterizes venture capital? Read a detailed and precise definition here.

For whom?
  • innovative micro and small businesses based in Styria
  • companies in the seed and startup phases (founded no more than 5 years ago)
For whom not?
  • medium- and large-sized companies
  • companies that do not fall within the SFG´s target group
  • locations outside Styria
For what?
  • personnel and operating expenses, particularly those related to research and development projects
  • expenses for the development of distribution channels
  • investments
  • working capital
How much?
  • Venture capital of up to 500,000 euros. The investment is made jointly with an experienced and qualified co-investor (business angel or venture capital firm); SFG’s investment is capped at twice the amount of the private co-investment.
  • This form of investment is a temporary, direct equity stake in the nominal capital of the corporation. As an exit strategy, the founders have the option to buy back the SFG’s shares.
Important hints
  • The company must already have been established.
  • The business model must demonstrate high innovation and market potential. A coherent business plan has been submitted for project review.
  • The project received a positive evaluation from a business angel or venture capital firm, and that investor has demonstrably expressed an interest in investing.
